THE LORD, OUR CONFIDENCE

A teaching by Rev. Barbara Williams, President of the Ministry of the Watchman International

Week of December 30, 2019-January 3, 2020

MONDAY
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
1 John 5:14-15

If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. Why is it important that God hear us? Think about it… there are places in the earth where the hearer has the option to hear or not hear certain requests.

The legal system has a policy of reviewing cases that will be heard when appeals are made at certain levels of decision. The judges in each case make the determination to hear or not hear certain cases.

Whether one is heard or not depends upon many things, but the court does not always explain why they refuse to hear certain cases… it is the sovereign right of the body to make that determination. Our sovereign God has all power, but He tells us how to be heard. This is a wonderful example of His mercy and favor.

If you are in need of healing, there is good news! Proverbs 4:20-22 SAYS:

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

So there is life and health in God’s word. Since God’s word is medicine, we must take it like we would a prescription. I suggest three times a day, like you would your food. Remember, healing is the children’s bread. Consider this your “dose” for today. Remember, read, and meditate three times a day the following:

Rx: James 1:17 ~ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
2 Timothy 2:15

TUESDAY
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
1 John 5:14-15

We must be in his will. God must be willing to give us what we desire… He is willing if we are in His will. Being in the will of God requires that we be born again, first and foremost. This begins our covenant with God and places us in His will.

After we receive Christ, we are invited to partake of more and more of the Father’s will. A person who makes out a will has a plan for the life of the person who is the beneficiary of the contents of the will.

God’s plan for us is always good, so He has provided only good things for us, but we must be in the will, or in the word, in order to receive these things. When we are in the word, we have access to the will of the Father. His expectations of us and plans for us are clear at all times. We have His ear.

WEDNESDAY
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
1 John 5:14-15

Obtaining the favor and ear of the Sovereign is not always easy. Remember Esther? She knew that she could not just walk in and be heard by the King. She also knew that to show up in the throne room without being summoned could result in death. (Natural Kings were often heavily guarded, and were forcefully protected from potential assassins in this way). Those who were uninvited had to wait to see if the golden scepter would be held out to them.

We have something much better than the golden scepter… we have a will that states that the provision has already been made. We are joint heirs with Christ. We are in the Father’s will. We only have to keep the word in our hearts by faith and walk out our obedience to Him. Then we can expect all of the blessings of the covenant to be fulfilled.

THURSDAY
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
1 John 5:14-15

Once we are heard, we know we have what we are asking. How do we know? We have a covenant of peace with God. Answers are confirmed with the bond of peace. Why peace? We need to know that there is nothing standing between us and God that may hinder the answer from coming forth.

When we have peace with God, we walk in a power that lifts us above our enemies. We are loved and we know it. Peace seals our position of righteousness and lets us know that we have a right to ask the things that we are asking of God. Peace is an assurance, yes a confidence… this is the confidence that we have.

The peace of God comes and gives assurance beyond what any human could give. We have the God confidence that we have what we are asking for.

FRIDAY
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
1 John 5:14-15

So God hears us if we are in His will. God has a language, and as His adopted children, we must speak the same language. Many families move from nation to nation, and in each nation there is a native or spoken language through which all business and official transactions are made. When a person moves to a new country, they must decide to adopt the national language or they will not be heard or understood… nor will they get what they desire.

It is the same in God’s kingdom. We must speak His language, His word, in order to be heard. We must sound like our Father, honor Him and please Him by speaking His language in order to receive everything He has for us. The language of God must be learned if we are going to receive the confidence of the Lord, our Confidence.
