“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!'” Romans 8:15
We have been given this Spirit. It’s up to us to receive it, like everything we get from God. Jesus told the disciples he was leaving, and would not leave them orphans (John 14:18-21), but give them another Comforter who would give them constant reassurance and guidance in this new life … Like a parent.
The Holy Spirit reassures us that we belong to a family. We cry, “Father, Daddy, Loving God.” So God is now close to us and we know we have been adopted by someone who loves us greatly.
We accept the Spirit of adoption by calling God “Father.” Once we’re comfortable there, we have security in our salvation. It’s great to have the greatest Dad in the world.
