THE TWO SPIRITUAL LAWS

A teaching by Rev. Barbara Williams, President of the Ministry of the Watchman International

Week of April 15-19, 2024

MONDAY
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:2

What is the law of sin and death? This is a spiritual law that governs the world outside of the Kingdom of God. The law of sin and death was instituted by God in Genesis 2:17. Sin is disobedience, and God promised death to the disobedient. This was an act of love and mercy because, had God not instituted a law to eliminate and control sin, man would live eternally in a state of death.

Death is separation from God. God ordained that His Son die for us and ransom us into a new life… life in the Spirit of Christ. The tree of life was kept from man when he was banished from the Garden of Eden. God made provision for the law of sin and death to be removed and replaced with a higher law: The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.

If you are in need of healing, there is good news! Proverbs 4:20-22 SAYS:

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

So there is life and health in God’s word. Since God’s word is medicine, we must take it like we would a prescription. I suggest three times a day, like you would your food. Remember, healing is the children’s bread. Consider this your “dose” for today. Remember, read, and meditate three times a day the following:

Rx: Psalm 103:1-5 ~ Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
2 Timothy 2:15

TUESDAY
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:2

The law of sin and death governs the sin that lives in our members. We have all been born in sin and shaped in iniquity. We need a Savior… one who can deliver us from the power of sin. Since sin is a spiritual force, it governs the spiritual realm that is the world’s system.

When we sin, we give agreement, acceptance, and permission to the law of sin and death. We obey the law of sin and death, and must live with what is decreed or sanctioned by that law. The decree for sin is death. Death manifests in all areas of life. Physically, it manifests in the form of sickness, financially it brings poverty, and eternally, it brings death.

WEDNESDAY
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:2

The law of sin and death governs the carnal life… the life without the Savior. Because death was a legal decree handed down because of disobedience, then all forms of the curse (penalty for sin) are manifestations of law rather than reality. For instance, if you run a red light and are caught you may be given a ticket, but you have the right to appeal the decree or fine if you feel there are circumstances that mitigated your disobedience.

With God, we don’t need an excuse; we plead guilty and ask for forgiveness. This is acceptable to God, and the curse (legal decree) is removed. In this instance, two laws have been applied: the letter of the law was given when the law was broken, then the spirit of the law allowed for mercy when the perpetrator pled his case.

THURSDAY
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:2

There are two laws in operation in this life as well. The law of sin and death says that disease is a normal part of life because it knows that sickness is the penalty for sin. Therefore sickness is more of a legal fact than a final decree. The symptoms you experience are very real and may appear immoveable, but in reality, it is more of a manifestation of a broken law than a permanent reality.

Even incurable diseases fall into this category. When symptoms appear, they are a manifestation of the decree handed down from the broken law. This decree is levied against all humanity. No person will be able to escape it, however, there is a higher law that will override and surpass the effects of the law of sin and death.

FRIDAY
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:2

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus sets us free from the law of sin and death. It makes the law of sin and death null and void when it is employed. Why is that? Because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus is eternal, the law of sin and death is temporal. The law of sin and death was done away with by the death of Jesus, who was slain before the foundation of the world. The law of sin in death was our teacher who taught us how to trust the Savior.

The Savior empowers us to employ His law by teaching us obedience to the faith that is in His word. His faith allows us to believe beyond the natural and material realm and believe for the storehouse of His riches in glory to be opened to us. This overcomes the law of sin and death. Seek the higher law… seek Jesus.
