“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him;” Matthew 2:1-3
Herod heard the King of the Jews was born. When you are king, the existence of another king is troublesome. The fact that those who were in Jerusalem were troubled, too is not so understandable. Jerusalem was the center of Jewish life. The temple was there, where they worshipped and learned about the coming Messiah. What were they troubled about? Weren’t they looking forward to the Messiah coming to save them? Apparently not.
Most did not receive Him even after He healed the sick and performed miracles. In our present day, Christians are praying for revival. That implies change. Will we miss God , just as the Jews missed Jesus? Our prayer should be, “Lord, give me eyes to see and ears to hear, and have the courage to choose your way.”
