THE LAW OF THE LORD

A teaching by Rev. Barbara Williams, President of the Ministry of the Watchman International

Week of May 24-28, 2021

MONDAY
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart. The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
Psalm 19:7-8

His law is perfect. Most religions set forth rules and regulations regarding what to eat, drink, wear, and what to do in certain situations to be thought of as a good person, but only the Law of the Lord transforms from the inside out. It does this of its own accord.

Did you ever have a conversation with a Christian who witnesses a lot and feel convicted? Or have you ever known someone who works tirelessly for God and sense strongly that you must do the same? Well, in both cases you came under the power of the law of the Lord. Your soul was converted by the strength of Jesus’ mandate to go into the entire world and preach the gospel to every creature.

God’s word is so perfect and pure that hearing it shines light in every dark place. The perfection of God’s word alone does this. That is why God commands us to preach the gospel to every creature. Ever have a situation where you felt you should say something about Jesus to someone and didn’t? Then you repented and asked God for another opportunity to tell that person about the Lord. The law of the Lord in its perfection it convicts you, and convinces you to change. With a word so pure and perfect, we become perfect when we obey it from the heart.

If you are in need of healing, there is good news! Proverbs 4:20-22 SAYS:

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

So there is life and health in God’s word. Since God’s word is medicine, we must take it like we would a prescription. I suggest three times a day, like you would your food. Remember, healing is the children’s bread. Consider this your “dose” for today. Remember, read, and meditate three times a day the following:

Rx: 2 Kings 20:5 ~ Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you.”

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
2 Timothy 2:15

If you’ve never studied the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, we invite you to join us as we read through the Bible in a year. Read and meditate on these chapters this week:

TUESDAY
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart. The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
Psalm 19:7-8

When we obey the Law of the Lord, first by taking it into our hearts, meditating upon it until it converts our thinking, and allowing it to guide our actions, we become wise, make right choices (no matter what the situation), we feel good within ourselves, and draw the adoration of others. We begin to see far beyond our normal vision when the Lord’s law works in us. With vision from God, our steps are sure, our way made plain, and we have confidence that our actions will turn out right all because we have His law working in us telling us right from wrong and bringing us to a higher level of obedience to God. What a powerful tool the word of God is for our lives.

WEDNESDAY
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever.
The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
Psalm 19:9

What does it mean to have clean fear? Ever have dirty fear? You know. That bully who chased you home from school. Or maybe it was an alcoholic or drunken parent or spouse. Maybe it was a pastor or teacher or boss who ruled by intimidation because of insecurity. Dirty fear leads to dirty response.

Clean fear leads to a love response. God’s law, though sometimes feeling severe and confining, is clean. It lets us know how much He loves us. We can respect Him for looking out for us and leading us in a perfect way. We respond back in love, appreciation and respect for Him.

God’s position as Supreme is everlasting because the fear of the Lord increases the knowledge of God in us. When we admire someone, we seek to know Him better. When we know, love and trust God, we know that whatever we must endure for His sake will be well worth it because He is pure, righteous, and clean. There is no fault or wickedness in God, so whatever we do according to His word will be for our good. He will make it so because He is good.

THURSDAY
More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Psalm 19:10

Material things are in their class, and spiritual and eternal things are in their class. Don’t ever mix the two. Many people have a problem with God because He values the eternal above the temporal. “Why can’t I have that gold chain now, Lord?”, we might ask. Because right now it is time to seek the Kingdom first. “Gee, I’d rather have that doughnut than fast,” you say. Too bad, it’s time to seek the Kingdom first. God knows that when we make the right choices, then right attitudes will be placed in our hearts. When we obey God by faith and see the results, then we prove the truth of His word. Being in right standing with God is better than riches, and silver or gold, and sweeter than the honeycomb.

FRIDAY
Moreover by them is your servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
Psalm 19:11

Does God warn us through His word? Yes, all the time. Inside us the Holy Spirit is nudging us to go one way or another based on the wisdom of God’s word. We love His word because we want to be successful in serving God. When we go farther and begin to keep God’s word, do what is right in His sight, go the extra mile and let our lights shine, we have great reward. The law of the Lord is perfect and pure. It always leads us in the way we should go. It converts our souls, corrects our thinking, makes us righteous and perfect, and imitators of God.
