I Don’t Know What You’re Thinking, but God Has a Miracle in Mind

WEDNESDAY’S WISDOM

I Don’t Know What You’re Thinking, but God Has a Miracle in Mind

SCRIPTURE: LUKE 5

Jesus used Peter’s boat to preach from. He wants to bless Peter so He tells Peter to take his boat, launch out into the deep and drop his nets and catch fish. Peter says he did that already and didn’t catch anything. Then he catches himself and says “nevertheless, at your word, I will.” He drops one net.

Who drops one net? Those boats have about four to six nets and I’m sure Peter had them all dropped all night and caught nothing. Peter’s mind is telling him there will be a repeat of last night’s failure, so we won’t expect much.

Actually, he’s merely patronizing Jesus. Going through the motions of obedience. When God gives instruction we will get a miracle if we obey from the heart. Jesus let’s him drop his one net, but the fish are already under command to fill two nets and break them. In that miracle atmosphere Peter realizes his error and tries to hide from Jesus. His sin of faithlessness becomes apparent. He did less in obedience to God than he did for himself.

If we obey God, a miracle will soon follow.
