SING A NEW SONG

A teaching by Rev. Barbara Williams, President of the Ministry of the Watchman International

Week of June 21-25, , 2021

MONDAY
Oh, sing to the Lord a new song!
For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.
Psalm 98:1

Ever think about the true meaning of a song? Ever think of the power of a song? Why do we sing? Songs are very powerful. They are God’s way of allowing a recurrence of a certain concept or theme to run through our minds. Songs minister to us. They bring us comfort, hope and strength. Songs communicate how we feel, think, what we value. Songs can stay in our minds or just pass through.

What makes a song stay with us? Even a “silly song” has the ability to stay with us, though we try hard to get rid of it, it sticks. The song must be doing something in our minds, our hearts, our souls. When a song has done its job, it runs its course, and we let go of it.

That is when we need a new song. What has been in our minds for such a long time has completed its purpose in our souls. At the beginning of each year, there is a sense of finality and ending of certain things, and the beginning of others.

What song have you been singing? Perhaps it’s time to set yourself on course with a new song. If you have been defeated, sing a song of victory. If you have been sad, sing a song of joy. If you have been bored or restless, a song of anticipation of new things is in order.

Did you know that we can search the Word to find exactly the new song we need to set a new course for a new year, or a new millennium, a new ministry, a new job, a new career, a new direction in life? Find a scripture that ministers to you and sing it. Rehearse it in your ears over and over, then grab a catchy melody that makes it fun to say. There is your new song.

Learn the power of a new song. Sing unto the Lord a new song. Sing about how great He is to you, and He will be.

If you are in need of healing, there is good news! Proverbs 4:20-22 SAYS:

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

So there is life and health in God’s word. Since God’s word is medicine, we must take it like we would a prescription. I suggest three times a day, like you would your food. Remember, healing is the children’s bread. Consider this your “dose” for today. Remember, read, and meditate three times a day the following:

Rx: 1 John 3:8b ~ For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
2 Timothy 2:15

TUESDAY
The Lord has made known His salvation; His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations.
Psalm 98:2

The new song you need may be a song of salvation. Whatever God does, He does publicly and openly. He wants to make Himself known to all. If we exalt and magnify Him with our new song, He will show us His salvation. It may be salvation from fear, death, disease, or destruction. God will show us His salvation. He is never far from us. He shows us the way. What God does for us will be made known to the ends of the earth.

WEDNESDAY
He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.
Sing to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of a psalm, with trumpets and the sound of a horn; shout joyfully before the Lord, the King.
Psalm 98:3-6

The psalmist reiterates these instructions to make a loud, joyful noise unto the Lord. Why a loud noise, you may ask? Why not? The Lord’s salvation is better than winning the Publisher’s Clearing House sweepstakes. God’s salvation is something that fits every need, so we ought to get excited about what God is doing for us.

THURSDAY
Sing to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of a psalm, with trumpets and the sound of a horn; shout joyfully before the Lord, the King.
Let the sea roar, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell in it; let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills be joyful together before the Lord, for He is coming to judge the earth.
Psalm 98:5-9a

Don’t feel like giving God that song of praise? Then the sea will roar and tell of His majesty. The heavens even speak and declare the glory of God, so why don’t we? We can join with all creation and exalt Him, speaking of His wondrous works. I feel like roaring a little bit about His greatness myself. If He’s ever done anything for you, sing a song about His greatness. He will come again in like manner and do more great things for you.

FRIDAY
Let the sea roar, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell in it; let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills be joyful together before the Lord, for He is coming to judge the earth. With righteousness He shall judge the world, and the peoples with equity.
Psalm 98:7-9

The coming of God’s judgment is something to clap about? Of course it is. When God judges the earth, He brings a reward for the righteous. Only the wicked are afraid of God’s judgment. Because He judges in righteousness, He judges the righteous to be O.K. with Him.

Seek His righteousness. Sing songs about His righteousness. Sing songs that bring His mercy toward us. Sing songs about His reward, and He will bring His reward with Him. His reward is an answer to prayer, or a miracle, or a new song about a new reward He wants to bring in the future. So keep that song on your lips, and sing it with a loud voice. That song will bring deliverance and reward to the righteous.
