And He Was in Deserts Until the Day of His Showing to Israel
SCRIPTURE: LUKE 1:80
This is speaking of John the Baptist. He lived a very austere life in the desert until the day God released him to preach. The desert is dry. Lots of fasting, not many luxuries. “But I’m the head and not the tail,” you say.
I agree totally, but until you are ready and God anoints you, the desert is the perfect place for you, me and every disciple of the Lord Jesus. Jesus was in the desert 40 days and nights before he reached a turning point and read the passage in Isaiah that declared that God had anointed Him to preach, heal the sick, raise the dead. The servant is not above His Master.
Whatever God ordains to bring us closer to Him must be endured. For His glory. He must empower us and it must be done on His terms. When we are ready, God shows us to the world as His workmanship. That’s a whole lot better than trying to show everybody how anointed we are. Yes, the desert is hot, lonely and dusty but it’s the place where the treasure is revealed.
Without the desert experience, we are merely earthen vessels. Shalom.
