Week of August 9-13, 2021
MONDAY
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: Who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.
Acts 10:38
Decisions that we make affect our security in God. Each decision we make is either spiritually sound or spiritually unwise. We want to make decisions that are spiritually sound for many reasons, but the one reason we often overlook is that pertaining to protecting what God has invested in us.
What has God invested in us?
He has invested His ability to do good. Your potential in the earth is to go about as Jesus did, doing good. How important is this? Can the sinner do good, also? The sinner can never do the good that Jesus did. He was anointed with the Holy Ghost and power. He went about doing good and healing demonic oppression. If you have never prayed a prayer of authority or cast out a devil, if you are anointed with the Holy Ghost and power, you have the potential to do good. You must protect this potential.
If you are in need of healing, there is good news! Proverbs 4:20-22 SAYS:
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
So there is life and health in God’s word. Since God’s word is medicine, we must take it like we would a prescription. I suggest three times a day, like you would your food. Remember, healing is the children’s bread. Consider this your “dose” for today. Remember, read, and meditate three times a day the following:
Rx: Psalm 107:20 ~ He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.
“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
2 Timothy 2:15
If you’ve never studied the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, we invite you to join us as we read through the Bible in a year. Read and meditate on these chapters this week:
August 9: Ruth 2, Acts 27, Jeremiah 37, Psalms 10
August 10: Ruth 3-4, Acts 28, Jeremiah 38, Psalms 11-12
August 11: 1 Samuel 1, Romans 1, Jeremiah 39, Psalms 13-14
August 12: 1 Samuel 2, Romans 2, Jeremiah 40, Psalms 15-16
August 13: 1 Samuel 3, Romans 3, Jeremiah 41, Psalms 17
August 14: 1 Samuel 4, Romans 4, Jeremiah 42, Psalms 18
August 15: 1 Samuel 5-6, Romans 5, Jeremiah 43, Psalms 19
TUESDAY
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not to your own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5
God has invested Himself in us if we are filled with the Holy Ghost and power. We have His spirit inside of us. We begin to gain knowledge about God by reading His word, attending church, and doing all the things that we do in pursuit of God. We want His knowledge. We want relationship. But God wants something, too.
He wants us to recognize His supreme wisdom in all things. This is why He commands we acknowledge Him in all our ways and seek Him for direction. Direction is a protective function. He delivers us from evil and leads us away from temptation.
What would we be tempted to do?
We may be tempted to compromise ourselves in some way so that we are unable to do the good that God has placed us in the earth to do.
WEDNESDAY
For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
1 Corinthians 6:20
We have been bought with a price, so we do not belong to ourselves. We are further commanded to glorify God in our bodies. We must allow God full control over our bodies. The usual thought here is about things related to intimacy, knowing that we must flee physical immorality.
We must maintain a purity in our bodies. The reason for this is so that our bodies will be available to God to do what Jesus would do in our situations. Understanding that we are the body of Christ at all times allows us to maintain our position with God.
We remain available to God for His use in good works. The good works of God are also Holy works, but we must keep uppermost in our minds that we are bought with a price; one that we are unable to pay. Only God could pay the price of ransom for us, so only God can have control over us.
THURSDAY
You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men.
1 Corinthians 7:23
Since we are bought with a price, we cannot be the servants of men, ourselves included. We should no longer serve ourselves. Many times even the “good” works that we would do are self-conceived. If we decide that we are going to pass out tracts in a public place, we need to find out if that kind of activity is allowed. If it is allowed, did God tell us to do this, or did it just seem like a good idea.
Not all good ideas come from God. God’s ideas work, no matter what the circumstance. When God ordains that we do these good works, there is the fruit of the anointing of God in the situation. Burdens are removed and yokes are destroyed. Demons flee and Jesus is glorified.
When we serve men, again, we compromise the anointing of God. We move away from the good that God wants us to do. How many times have we gone places and done things that God has not told us to do. How many times have we put ourselves and our safety in jeopardy because we have not obeyed God.
We carry precious cargo—the Holy Ghost and power. We must acknowledge that we are not our own.
FRIDAY
Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Matthew 10:31
Jesus tells us our value as human beings. He tells us not to take thought for the things that we are to eat, drink or wear. Just as God takes care of the sparrows, He takes care of us, and we are of more value than many sparrows. God wants us to be keenly aware of our value to do good in the earth, but He also wants us to remain humble to Him.
This is not that difficult when we keep in mind that we are not our own any longer. We must be prayerful in making plans for how we spend our time. Every minute we spend on earth is very precious to the Lord, and being mindful of our potential to do good is a first step in protecting the precious cargo that God has placed in us.
Imagine if everybody filled with the Holy Ghost and power obeyed God perfectly! Revival would happen automatically. What a blessing we would be in the earth. If we all learn to protect what God has put in us, this would be a reality.
Protecting the precious Holy Spirit who dwells within us is one key to doing good works for God.
